Join our Mission

Our volunteer program is a cornerstone of Habitat 4 Paws. Volunteers play a crucial role in every aspect of our organization, helping us save even more lives. By joining our team of dedicated volunteers, you'll forge strong connections with fellow animal lovers, the community, and the animals. Together, we can find loving homes for more pets.

Volunteer Opportunities

We're always looking for help at our in-person events, online fundraising and more.

Fundraising event volunteers

As a fundraising event volunteer, you will be an ambassador with the rescue and assist with:

  • Setting up before the event and breaking down tables and/or tents after the event

  • Talking with event visitors about the rescue

  • Handing out giveaways

  • Help recruit new fosters

Adoption event volunteers

Adoption events are an important way for our animals to get noticed! As an adoption event volunteer you'll help with:

  • Setting up before the event and breaking down tables and/or tents after the event

  • Helping with meet and greets of cats or dogs

  • Assisting with taking dogs for walks

  • Talking with event visitors about the rescue

  • Handing out giveaways

Transport volunteers

Helping with transport is crucial in helping the rescue pick up animals quickly from local and rural shelters. We can provide kennels for transport, you just provide your time! Most of the shelters are within a 60 minute drive of Frisco, Texas. Transport needs include:

  • Transport from a shelter to the foster

  • Transport to and/or from an adoption event

  • Transport of fosters to vet appointments

PetSmart Adoption Center cat room volunteers

When our cats are ready for adoption, they often go up to the PetSmart Adoption Center in Frisco, Txas (DNT and El Dorado) so they can get more visibility with potential adopters. Cat room volunteers help:

  • Clean the litter boxes

  • Replace food and water in kennels

  • Replace bedding

  • Play with cats and kittens at the adoption center

  • Give the kitties some tlc and snuggles!

Common questions about volunteering

  • Do you do same day adoptions?
At times, we do adopt same day, however not on the spot at an event. If you decide to move forward with a home trial, we can finalize if you are positive it is a match. We recommend taking the home trial period to be sure since adoption fees are not refundable.
  • What is provided during the home trial?
We will provide food for the foster during the stay and often times a few of their favorite toys. For cats, a litter box is not provided. You will need to provide that in your home.
  • What age do I need to be to adopt?
Adopters must be 21 and have a valid Texas driver’s license or a state-issued ID that matches the home address. If new to the area, a utility bill in the name of adopter will suffice.
  • What if I rent at my current residence?
Renters must present proof of pet deposit or landlord approval to have a pet. This is not required for the home trial, only when you decide adopt.
  • Will you help my current pet(s) adjust during the home trial?
We have adoption behavior counselors at our rescue that can help give pointers on how to ensure a safe transition for your new pet. They will also provide suggestions for things to try for each pet.
